Cooking For Tuesdays

Just a little of what I like to cook.

Tuesdays with Dorie: Yummy Chocolatey Goodness…

on February 21, 2012

yes, i know, that’s not the official name of the recipe, but it is all yummy chocolatey goodness all over… i’m supposed to be trying to lose weight here!! lol

so, before i share my experience, here’s where to go for the hosts: http://someonekitchen.blogspot.com/ and http://cookbookhabit.blogspot.com/

so, let’s start with the dough. i put it in my food processor. i don’t use it nearly enough, that’s for sure. and i remember why. my dishwasher had gone belly-up back in may, and there is a LOT of nooks and crannies to get to in that lid. lol, not to mention all the dishes i wash when i bake something! and last night i had started some cinnamon rolls that i baked this morning for breakfast. so, a ton of baking (or so it seems) today. anyway, back to the dough. it was a lump. left it in the fridge while we went looking for me a pair of boots.

reading about how it could crumble, and knowing my lack of skill with pie dough, i turned to the expert.

poor guy, after returning from a year in afganistan, i make him help me in the kitchen!! he really should expect this by now. i mean as of today, we’ve been married for 15 years… if he doesn’t know me by now, he never will!

Photobucket

he’s such a perfectionist. look at the concentration on his face as he puts the dough in the tart pans. he’s tolerant too. i got a lot of stuff for baking the day he came home! just no kitchen aid. he doesn’t want to pay that much for one… so, i’m looking on ebay. i may just have him talked into one, i’ll just have to show him i need one! 🙂

Photobucket

he wanted to make sure i posted a pic of his work. yeah, he’s modest too, huh?

i mentioned chocolate to my little helper. she ate most of the left over chocolate chips. i think she even went to bed with chocolate on her chin. no one dared wiped it off. she is still re-learning how to sleep in her own bed instead of snuggling up with mama.

Photobucket

i wasn’t sure if 4 biscotti would fit! lol, i used this recipe as an excuse to go to sam’s club and buy a big box of them. i love them with hot chocolate.

Photobucket

i had to get creative with melting the chocolate. i don’t have a metal bowl and well, this worked. just had to be very careful. that’s why i took a pic of the process after i was finished with this step!

Photobucket

my taste tester. he licked spoons and made sure my chocolate chips passed the quality inspection. here he is watching them cook.

Photobucket

almost done 🙂

Photobucket

they’re done and cooling. too bad the kids had to both go to bed before they had a chance to taste these. they’ll eat them tomorrow, during the day, when there is hours before they try to go to sleep.

Photobucket

look at the beautiful texture. yum!!

i think this is a recipe to try again and again. it met my hubby’s picky standards.

and no, i think they are all claimed. sorry.

I think it is great that your husband’s family taught him to bake. My husband is willing to help, but utterly useless in the kitchen It isn’t so bad because it means that I get to cook and bake while he gets to clean. I personally like it that way.

  3. They look great! It is nice to have a helper 🙂

I know! I’m grateful we’re only doing two recipes a month from this book or else I’d have to invest in some elastic-waist pants ;D Also, you might have some luck looking into a restaurant supply or repair store, often you can get refurbished/second-hand KitchenAids at a good deal that way.

They look fantastic! And I agree, it’s wonderful to have helpers in the kitchen 😀

Glad you made it a family activity!

I try, but with a one and three year old they don’t yet have the patience!

Looks like you have plenty of help in the kitchen. Of course, the pay is good – baked goods!!

    And the tarts look great!!

So glad you stopped by for a visit.

It’s always great to have helpers both large and small.
I received my KA stand mixer a few years ago as a present, and I think The Dude was pleasantly surprised by how much more goods started coming out of the kitchen. 🙂

I think kitchenaid sells refurbished ones for like half the price … thats the word on the street. you can also check into Costco – they do great sales on them 🙂 your tarts look great! isn’t it fun to have your husband help you in the kitchen? My husband secretly loves it but would never admit it. even to me…

  11. A beautiful post…so cool that hubby helped!
